Studio Profile
Crowe River Studio is an Art and Design space centered around the work of environmental artist Richard Watts. Richard's environmental "Land Art" has been featured in Installation Art projects in Canada and abroad, including the Tom Thomson Museum, Ontario, and in Brooklyn, New York, among others. Future exhibitions include an upcoming group show at MA Rouyn-Noranda in Quebec. Partners for arts-based collaborations include the People’s Climate Collective, Beyond Crisis Film, Better Creative, The Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre, and others.
The studio is a large newer converted barn on 63 acres near Toronto, Ontario, and on the edge of the Canadian Shield. The barn and woods combine creation, production, exhibition, and education into a single encompassing environmental context. Richard's art practice in this space explores both physically embodying an inner spiritual connection to nature, as well as speaking to environmental and climate change issues.
In addition to being a land artist, Richard is also a sculptor, teacher, and designer. He also works in “Hollywood North” in Toronto as a member of the film union IATSE 873 and builds movie sets, e.g., on productions such as Star Trek Discovery, The Expanse, Umbrella Academy, Slumberland, among others.
